Tikondane Community Centre (TIKO) is more than just a stopover to one of the best game parks in Africa; it is your gateway to the real Africa. Nestled between Lusaka and the breathtaking South Luangwa Game Park, TIKO is perfectly located in Katete, right on the main good road connecting Zimbabwe to Zambia and all the way up to Malawi, being joined by a road from Mozambique. At our TIKO Eco Lodge diverse types of accommodations are awaiting you. But the true essence of TIKO lies in its being very much an extended family, which the Chewa, who mainly are subsistence farmers and ever so friendly, will happily share with you.
There are 20 activities, from taking part in all the meetings at Tiko, to learning about their interesting culture and witnessing the secret dances of the women as well as those of the men with the GHOST DANCE, which includes the whole village, validated by UNESCO and done at night – an unforgettable experience.
With TIKO being a registered NGO, you will also be able to witness the development that has taken and still is taking place in the compounds and in the villages for the 62 local TIKO volunteers and another hundred households. The TIKO CREW is part of a project that has developed over all these years and culminates in the TIKO SURVIVAL PACKAGE. Mindsets had to be changed to have the women grow a nutritious balanced diet in their backyard all year round with a smart way of cutting down on cost and mitigating climate change. Right now, we are changing mindsets to seeing agriculture as a business.
