Dear Friends,
Too much time has passed since we posted our last newsletter. Why? We did not want to give you bad news, the world is full enough of that, so we waited until we had a reason for hope, which we do now have. Second, our editor Lorraine was not well but Claire (a volunteer from 10 years ago) is stepping in. Christoph and Rey have also helped a lot – as they do in so many ways – so thanks to of all our wonderful helpers, zikomo kwambiri. And our best wishes to Lorraine….

I haven’t been this excited before a trip for a long time. After the forced three-year break due to
Covid 19, I could finally revisit the “Tikondane Community Centre” project in Katete (Zambia),
which is supported by the Zambia/Fair Trade AG…
So aufgeregt war ich lange nicht mehr vor einer Reise. Nach der coronabedingten dreijährigen Zwangspause habe ich das von der Sambia-/Fair Trade-AG unterstützte Projekt „Tikondane Community Centre“ in Katete (Sambia) endlich wieder besuchen können…

Der Mai ist ohne Newsletter vergangen, und jetzt befinden wir uns schon im Juli und können uns über die Rückkehr von Besuchern und Freiwilligen freuen. Ein Grund für die lange Wartezeit ist, dass wir hier so viel zu tun hatten, was Sie aus den folgenden Berichten ersehen können. die weltweite Covid-19-Epidemie hat uns gezwungen, Veränderungen in Tiko vorzunehmen und unter anderem die Auswirkungen der Einkommensverluste der Lodge und des Restaurants zu untersuchen. Zusammen mit Lydia, einer Viehzüchterin in Katete, und Christine, einem langjährigen, hart arbeitenden Mitglied von Tiko, bin ich zu einem einwöchigen Kurs nach Uganda gereist, der von Dr. Emma Naluyima geleitet wurde, um zu lernen, wie wir das Land bestmöglich nutzen können, und um die angewandten Methoden anderen zu demonstrieren…

The worldwide Covid-19 epidemic has forced us to make changes at Tiko and amongst other things to look into the effects of the loss of income from the lodge and restaurant. With Lydia, a livestock officer in Katete, and Christine, a long-time hard-working member of Tiko, I went to Uganda for a weeklong course given by Dr. Emma Naluyima to learn how we can make the best possible use of the land and demonstrate the methods used to others…
